18TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PALM

In the center of Warsaw stands a palm tree. The surprising landmark is titled Greetings from Jerusalem Avenue (2002). It originated from artist Joanna Rajkowska’s visit to Israel, which made her realize the void left by the absence of the Jewish community in Poland and the significance of the history and etymology of Aleje Jerozolimskie to Warsaw identity.

 

On the occasion of the 18th birthday of the Palm, The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw asked me to illustrate the phrase “Warsaw Palm”
